Shanghai Treasures Collection (2008) by Nancy Pon
Shanghai Times Square, Shanghai, China
Shanghai Treasures conveyed the essence of Shanghai through its people, its cityscape and its lifestyle. Inspiration for each piece came from common daily images that were once prevalent throughout Shanghai, providing a vibrant canvas for experiences and memories.
The sixty pieces on exhibit created a vivid impression of what it was like to walk through Shanghai streets over the past ten years. From clotheslines, to fruit stalls, to old lanes and mail boxes, each image hinted at the sounds, smells and spirit of Shanghai inhabitants. For many, the exhibition unlocked memories of the past and possibly sprung a new appreciation for the Shanghai that was. For others, the exhibition was a reminder of how quickly Shanghai has changed, giving reason to celebrate the past and appreciate the future.
